The Environmental Club project of the Zomayi High School (TGO-35)

Brief description and main aimsThe Environmental Club project of the Zomayi High School is initiated by the students and teachers. It is a modern high school with classes from the first year of lower secondary (junior high school) up to the third year of upper secondary (high school).
With a total of 36 classrooms the school has a student population of nearly 3,000.
The objectives of the project are to:

Main ActivitiesThe club intervenes in each class and organizes talks/debates with projections of images and videos on major environmental issues on different environmental themes, such as: climate change, the importance of forests, sustainable development, biodiversity, management waste, alternative energies.
The club, from time to time, initiates excursions to discover the richnesses of the fauna and the flora as well as the environmental problems of the country. It also sets up school nurseries and creates green spaces in other schools in the city and surrounding villages.

Volunteer tasksThe volunteer will be able to accompany the club's animator, a teacher to visit classrooms for talks/debates on environmental issues. Each class has one hour per week for these talks-debates and mass awareness activities are also organized with the entire school. The volunteer will help the facilitator to prepare the themes and also present some aspects of the themes. The volunteer will assist the facilitator in planning all activities for the club and the beneficiaries. |
Volunteer requirements / SkillsThe volunteer does not really need an experience in the field of the environment. However, knowledge of environmental issues will be an asset. |
LocationThe project is located in Zomayi section along the road that leads to the villages Kpadapé and Womé. |
