Brief description and main aims

Cultural Exposure

our farm is situated on the outskirts of Schwaderloch, a village with around 700 inhabitants, in a very quiet place. Schwaderloch lies directly on the border with Germany, about 8 kilometres east of Laufenburg. The Rhine River forms a natural border here. Zurich and Basel can be reached by bus/train in around 1 hour, Baden in 45 minutes. Everyday shopping can be done in Döttingen or Laufenburg with around 4,000 inhabitants in around 20 minutes by bus. Or you can walk over the pedestrian bridge to Albbruck Germany in 10-15 minutes.

Main Activities

Supporting the entire team in a variety of tasks, integration into the team and experiencing the philosophy of a farm with a corresponding way of life. Awareness of nature and the animal world and learning to treat them with respect.

Caring for and feeding animals, mucking out stables, cleaning enclosures, bedding, garden maintenance. Work and help on the farm and in the household.

Volunteer tasks

caring for animals, feeding animals, cleaning enclosures and stables, bedding, mucking out, putting up fences, taking animals out to pasture, looking after and visiting animals in various pastures, minor repair work on enclosures and stables

Volunteer requirements / Skills

Understanding of the philosophy of a shelter farm for neglected and abandoned animals and willingness to engage with it. The animals always take centre stage and their welfare comes first. At this farm, they are no longer farm animals, but members of the family who are treated accordingly.

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

Directly at the farmhouse. The volunteer has his:her own room. It is simply but functionally furnished. Common rooms such as the kitchen, bathroom and living room are for shared use.

Volunteer is provided with all the meals they need. Shared main meals together from time to time are desirable. Otherwise, the kitchen is always open to the volunteer.
