Brief description and main aims

KITS is a bilingual dayschool (german/English) that focuses on the individual capabilities of the children. Its aim is to offer an atmosphere where each and every child is helped to build up its strength and to compensate its weaknesses.

Bronschhofen is a small town in the canton of St.Gallen in the east of Switzerland 45min away from Zürich

Main Activities

The centre offers a daily structure to children from 2 to 15 years. On one hand it offers day care for toddlers from 2 years upwards, where mainly German, English and French is spoken. Furthermore, it has two groups of kindergarden: one for the kids from 3 to 5 years and one group with basic teaching from 4 to 7 years. There are as well small groups of primary and secondary class where the class is bilingual. 

Volunteer tasks

The volunteer tasks depend on his/her abilities. In general there is an option to have a look into the different section of the school and to work with toddlers as well as with older school children. In the beginning you might have to do simple tasks such as cleaning, look after the children during the lunch breack etc. With the time you will have the possibility to take over more responsabilities. The following tasks could be included:

o Look after children during pick-up and drop-off times.

o Look after the children in the lunch break.

o Assist in the kitchen.

o Assist the teachers in the English speaking group o Play with the small children.

o Help the teachers in all classroom situations.

o Work as a teacher assistance 

o Sweep/vacuum floors, wipe tables, dust, and other light household duties at the school.

In this project you have the possibility to gain an insight into the education given to kids from 2 to 15 years

Volunteer requirements / Skills

Being fluent in English (ideally mother tongue), good manners, enjoy playing with children, be willing to help with some minor house cleaning activities, and be able to work with the other staff members as part of a team. They need dependable, happy, flexible, and easy-going volunteers, who take initiative when working with children.
