Brief description and main aims

Kaliyuva  Mane  [a  Kannada  word  which  means  "home for learning"]  is  an  alternative residential school  started by Divya Deepa in June 2005.

Divya  Deepa  strongly  endorses  this  mission  statement: "To focus  on  the  opportunity  deprived  children,  helping  them  to get  a  move  on  with  their  lives  and  show  the  way  to  achieve their  dreams,  by  providing  necessary  help,  care,  empathy  and value based education". They feel that every child has an equal opportunity to learn, innovate and excel in life.

Volunteer tasks

  • The volunteer will learn how to manage a school home by helping in the administration office.
  • Volunteers will also take part in eco-conscious program, learning how to save rain water,  recycling, build an eco-toilet.
  • Participating  in  daily  routine  programme and activities, such as lessons, cleaning activities, workshops.
  • There will be a possibility to suggest a new kind of lesson depending on the volunteer's interests.

  • Adjust to the new enviroment easily
  • Have a helping nature
  • Be hard working

Location

Kaliyuva Mane is located in Kenchalagudu village in rural environment. 

Hosting Situation (Board and Lodging)

Volunteer will be sharing a room with another volunteer in the same project.
